On February 13, 2003 the International Finance Corporation (IFC) approved an equity investment in Kalahari Diamonds Limited. Sponsored by BHP Billiton, Kalahari Diamonds Limited will prospect for diamonds within licensed areas, one third of which fall within the Central Kalahari and Khutse Game Reserves, traditional homelands of the San (Bushmen). The project sponsor committed to hold consultations with San community members following the project’s approval and the IFC planned to visit the project area early in the project’s implementation.
